How to change Drum Assembly on a Hotpoint Washing Machine
- Safety First:Remove the Plug from the Mains Socket
- Tools required:Phillips & a T15 torx screwdriver & a 13mm socket spanner
- Pliers/Side Cutters/Flat Screwdriver/13mm spanner
- Remove the screw cover caps on both sides of the lid
- Using the T15 torx spanner remove 2 lid retaining screws
- Lift the lid slightly
- Push the lid back and remove it
- Lid removed
- Remove the soap dispenser drawer
- Using the phillips screwdriver remove 3 console retaining screws
- From the left pull the console away from the machine
- From the right un-clip the console
- Make a note of the wires (a photograph is useful)
- Release the wires from the control module by pushing them away
- Wires released now remove the console
- Console removed from machine
- Remove the door seal from the outer casing
- Using the flat head screwdriver separate the retaining clip
- Pull the retaining clip away with the door seal retaining wire attached
- Remove the door seal retaining wire
- Grip the door seal and pull it away from the outer casing
- Grip the kick strip and pull it away
- Remove the kick strip
- Remove 2 screws retaining the top of the front casing
- Remove 2 screws retaining the bottom of the front casing
- Lift and slide the front casing upwards a small amount
- Pull the front casing away from the machine & remove wires from the interlock
- Its easier to remove the front counterweight with the machine on its back
- Using the 13mm socket remove the 3 bottom counterweight retaining bolts
- Bolts removed now remove the bottom counterweight from the drum
- Bottom counterweight removed from the drum
- Using the 13mm socket remove 3 top counterweight retaining bolts
- Top counterweight bolts removed now remove the counterweight from the drum
- Top counterweight removed from the outer drum casing
- Using a flat head screwdriver release the plastic clip on the top of the hose
- Grip the dispenser outlet hose and pull it away from the dispenser
- Locate the dispenser inlet hoses
- Grip the inlet hoses and remove them from the dispenser
- Inlet hoses removed
- Remove the wires from the plastic clip
- Remove the plastic clip retaining the wires from the console back plate
- Wires and plastic clip removed
- Remove the dispenser
- Remove the plastic wire retaining clips from the console back plate
- Make a note of the wires to the power module (a photograph is useful)
- Remove the wires from the power module
- Remove further wires from the power module
- Remove the plastic wire retaining clips from the console back plate
- Using the phillips screwdriver remove the console back plate retaining screws
- Remove console back plate retaining screws from both sides
- Unclip the console back plate from the left side
- Unclip the console back plate from the right side
- Slide the console back plate away from the side panel
- Console back plate removed
- Using the phillips screwdriver release the wire clip & remove the dispenser hose
- Using the T15 torx remove the screws retaining the lower back panel
- Lower back panel removed
- From the top locate the drive belt at the rear of the appliance
- Grip the drive belt at the same time rotate the drum pulley to remove the belt
- Now remove the drive belt from the drive shaft
- With the belt released from the drum pulley and drive shaft remove the belt
- Using a soft cloth for protection lay the machine on its face (folded dustsheet)
- Using a 13mm spanner remove 2 Motor retaining bolts
- Using a 13mm spanner remove 2 Motor retaining bolts
- With bolts removed now remove the motor from the drum casing
- Make a note of the wires (a photograph is useful) and remove them
- Wires removed
- Motor removed
- Release the clip retaining the sump kit & remove it from the outer casing
- Make a note of the heater wires (a photograph is useful) & remove them
- Sump kit & wires removed now stand the machine up
- Using the side cutters cut the cable ties holding the wires onto the drum
- Wires released
- Locate the damper peg on the suspension damper
- Using the flat screwdriver push a small clip on the damper peg
- Grip the damper peg with a pair of pliers still pushing with the screwdriver
- Remove the damper peg
- Remove the damper peg on the other side
- Damper peg removed
- Lift the springs out of the side panel both sides & remove the drum assembly
- Drum assembly removed
- Take the Drum assembly from its package ensuring its correct for the appliance
- Fit the spring to the new drum assembly
- Make sure the spring hooks face outwards
- Lift the Drum assembly into position
- Drum assembly in position with springs attached to side panels
- Grip the suspension damper & slide it up into position
- Locate the suspension damper into the outer drum
- Insert the plastic damper peg & push it all the way in
- Damper peg in position
- Insert the plastic damper peg on the other side
- Reattach the wires to the outer drum with new cable ties
- Using a soft cloth for protection lay the machine on its face (folded dustsheet)
- Replace the heater wires
- Refit the sump kit onto the outer drum
- Fit the wires to the motor
- Locate the Motor into position on the drum housing
- Locate the Motor retaining bolts
- Using the 13mm spanner tighten both Motor retaining bolts do not over tighten
- Stand the machine up and from the top feed the belt down past the drum pulley
- Position the drive belt over the drive shaft
- Position the drive belt over the drum pulley while rotating the drum pulley
- The drive belt should be fitting centrally on the drum pulley
- The drive belt should be fitting centrally on the drive shaft
