How to change the Drum Bearings and Bearing Seal on a Hotpoint Washing Machine

  2. Safety First:Remove the Plug from the Mains Socket

  3. Tools required: Hammer & a flat head screwdriver
    Hammer & flat screwdriver (Small)
  4. 13mm socket a T30 torx screwdriver & a drift punch
    T15 torx & a 13mm socket
  5. Use a suitable silicone sealant where indicated
    Silicone Sealant 60ml
  6. To remove drum see video on drum assembly replacement

  8. Stand the drum on end and locate the drum pulley

  9. Using the 13mm socket remove the drum pulley retaining bolt this will be tight

  11. Remove the drum pulley

  13. Using a block of wood and hammer give the spindle a sharp tap to release it

  14. The outer drum can now be split

  15. The 2 parts of the outer drum will only fit one way but 2 marks helps reassembly

  16. Using the T30 torx remove the outer drum retaining screws

  17. Using the flat head screwdriver carefully separate the 2 parts of the outer drum

  19. Tap the spindle down onto a block of wood to release the inner drum

  20. Remove the inner drum from the rear outer drum

  21. From the inside of the rear outer drum remove the bearing seal

  22. Remove the bearing seal

  23. Using a suitable screwdriver or drift punch knock out the outer bearing

  24. Using a suitable screwdriver or drift punch knock out the inner bearing

  25. Inner bearing removed

  26. Take the new Bearings from its package ensuring its correct for the appliance

  27. Place the outer bearing into position

  28. Using a hammer & a block of wood tap the bearing into the outer drum

  29. Tap the bearing down & flush with the outer drum casing

  30. Outer bearing in position

  31. Place the inner bearing into position

  32. Tap the bearing down & flush with the drum casing

  33. Bearing flush with the drum casing

  34. Using a drift punch carefully tap down on the outer edge of the bearing

  35. Tap down evenly around the outer edge of the bearing

  36. Do not tap the inner part of the bearing

  37. Tap the bearing all the way home until a small hole is fully exposed

  38. A small hole is now exposed

  39. Place the bearing seal into position

  40. Using a hammer and a block of wood carefully tap the bearing seal into position

  41. Place the rear outer drum over the inner drum and locate the bearings onto the spindle and gently tap into place

  42. Line up the 2 marks & fit the 2 parts of the outer drum together

  43. Two parts of drum together & ready for fixing

  44. Note the numbers on the drum front, these indicate screw numbers

  45. Using the T30 torx tighten screws in opposite sequence 1-10-6-14 etc

  46. Replace the drum pulley onto the spindle

  47. Replace the drum pulley retaining bolt
    WMA 60 Drum Pulley 3.
  48. Using a 13mm socket tighten the drum pulley retaining bolt fully

  49. Make sure this is fully tightened to draw the spindle into the bearings

  50. Drum pulley in place

  51. Drum assembly back together & ready to be fitted to the machine
