Discolouration of plastics in your Dishwasher
This is a fairly common problem on plastic items that you regularly wash in your dishwasher. Very often these plastics will take on a yellow or brown appearance.
This is not a problem caused by the dishwasher, so there is no need to contact an engineer to solve this issue. The problem is generally caused by:
- Age of the plastic – although plastic is a very hardwearing material, constant washing in a dishwasher will eventually cause the plastic to discolour
- Not all plastic is dishwasher safe, so please ensure that your plastic items are suitable for dishwasher use. This will ensure these items will give you a much longer shelf life.
- Iron in the water supply – this is something which you obviously have no control over, but you can minimise the impact by only using dishwasher safe plastic
Unfortunately, once these items have discoloured, there is no way to get them back to their original look.
