Gas Appliance And Cooker Repairs

Kitchen Gas Cooker/Oven Repairs

Regardless of which type of appliance, gas cooker or oven, which needs to be repaired, it is vital that unless you are Gas Safe registered you should not attempt any repair yourself if it is related to the actual gas supply.

If your repair does include the gas supply, once your approved engineer has carried out the work, you must ensure that a gas soundness safety test is carried out, so you can be sure that the repair has been carried out to the highest standard.

Obtaining Spares

You may encounter difficulties in getting hold of spares for the gas cooker/oven that are directly related to the gas supply, as you will find that a lot of suppliers will only supply spares to qualified engineers.  This is because the industry, as a whole, treats gas with great respect.  Too many tragedies have occurred in the past for people to take chances.

Replacement parts that are separate from the gas supply are generally available, such as burner caps, oven door seals etc.  As in most cases, you will need the make, model and serial number of your cooker/oven to ensure the part fits perfectly.

However, spares for hobs and some ovens may well require the gas supply to be shut off to replace the part.  Again, this is something you will need to feel confident about doing yourself, or get a qualified engineer to carry out the work for you.

Safety first is the only way to deal with gas.
