How do I find the serial number of my built-in oven?
The only place you will find the serial number of your built-in appliance will be at the back of the oven housing. This obviously means you will need to slide the oven out far enough for you to see the number. Although you may think this sounds difficult and a bit on the dangerous side, carried out methodically it should not be too much of a problem.
If you still have your copy of the manufacturer’s handbook you should see the installation diagram, which will show you how to carry out the procedure but you will need to look at it in reverse. The most important thing it should show is where you will find the locking screws which hold the oven in place.
Obviously before you even start to work out how to do this, you must ensure that the oven is completely disconnected from the mains power. This should always be the first rule of maintenance on any electrical component. You will find that an oven can pack a mean punch which could have very serious consequences.
Once you have located and removed all the screws – usually only 2 or 4 – the oven is ready to be pulled forward. This is something that you can do on your own but it is always better to enlist the help of another strong pair of arms. You should be remember that the oven will be very heavy.
Please be aware that once you start to slide the oven from the housing, there is a strong likelihood that it will start to tip forward, hence it is always better to have two pairs of hands available to keep the oven straight.
You may find that the mains electrical wiring is on the short side, and it may be that the oven will not come out completely. It should, however, move enough to allow you to see the serial numbers you need.
You must also be very careful not to catch any other wiring or especially gas hoses that maybe in situ when moving the oven, the slower the better to avoid adding any other problems.
If you are unfortunate and damage a gas hose causing a leak, call a CORGI qualified engineer as quickly as possible and leave the oven in as safe a position as possible.
Explain to the engineer what has occurred and they will treat your call with the urgency required. This is a very unlikely scenario but it is best to be prepared as much as possible.
When you have replaced the oven in the housing, remember to tighten the fixing bolts as shown in your handbook
