How to change drum oil seal on a washing machine Ariston AIB16- Safety first Remove the plug from the mains supply

- Tools required: Phillips screwdriver a 10mm spanner and a T40 torx spanner

- A non metallic hammer and a flat screwdriver

- Using a phillips headed screwdriver remove screws holding the back panel.

- Protect the machine with a dust-sheet and lay it on its face

- Using the 10mm spanner loosen the nut on 1 motor retaining bolt

- Using the 10mm spanner remove the nut on the other motor retaining bolt

- Remove the motor retaining bolt to release the tension of the belt

- Remove the belt from the drum pully

- Remove the belt from the drive pulley

- Belt removed

- Using the T40 torx spanner remove the drum pulley retaining bolt

- Bolt removed

- Remove the drum pulley which may need a little rocking to dislodge

- Drum pulley removed

- Make a note of the position of the spacer wedge on the spider

- Locate the spider fixing bolts

- Using the T40 torx spanner remove 8 spider retaining bolts

- Using a non metallic hammer give the spindle a sharp tap

- This may be a bit tight but you can now remove the spider

- Spider removed

- Using a flat head screwdriver prise of the oil seal from the spider

- Oil seal removed from the spider

- Take the new oil seal from its package ensuring its correct for the appliance

- Smear some petroleom jelly on the new oil seal and fit the seal into the spider

- Smear some petroleom jelly on the seal and fit the spider back over the spindle

- Locate the spider into its correct position and line up bolt holes

- Using the T40 torx spanner tighten the 8 spider retaining bolts

- Bolts secured and back in position

- Place the drum pulley onto the spindle and firmly push into place

- Replace the drum pulley retaining bolt

- Using the T40 torx spanner tighten the drum pulley retaining bolt

- Place the belt onto the drive pully

- Now place the belt onto the drum pulley

- Replace the motor retaining bolt to tension the belt
- Using the 10mm spanner replace the nut on the motor retaining bolt & tighten

- Tighten the other motor retaining bolt and stand the machine up

- Replace the back panel and tighten the retaining screws
