How to change Drum Support Spider on a Hotpoint Washing Machine
- Safety First:Remove the Plug from the Mains Socket
- Tools required: Hammer & a flat head screwdriver
- 13mm socket a T30 torx screwdriver & an electric drill
- Use a suitable silicone sealant where indicated
- To remove drum see video on drum assembly replacement
- Drum assembly removed
- Stand the drum on end and locate the drum pulley
- Using the 13mm socket remove the drum pulley retaining bolt this will be tight
- Drum pulley retaining bolt removed
- Remove the drum pulley
- Drum pulley removed
- Using a block of wood and hammer give the spindle a sharp tap to release it
- The outer drum can now be split
- The 2 parts of the outer drum will only fit one way but 2 marks helps reassembly
- Using the T30 torx screwdriver remove the outer drum retaining screws
- Using the flat head screwdriver carefully separate the 2 parts of the outer drum
- Outer drum separated
- Tap the spindle down onto a block of wood to release the inner drum
- Remove the inner drum from the rear outer drum
- If possible remove the spider retaining screws these may need drilling out
- Alternatively drill a 5mm pilot hole through the centre of the screw
- Drill the head of the screw of with a 10mm drill bit
- Screw head removed, repeat this procedure on all screws if necessary
- Using a flat head screwdriver prise the spider away from the drum
- Remove the spider from the drum
- Take the new drum spider from its package ensuring its correct for the appliance
- Fit the spider to the drum
- Fit the 3 spider retaining screws
- Using a T30 torx screwdriver tighten the 3 screws
- Place the rear outer drum over the spindle and gently tap into place
- Line up the 2 marks & fit the 2 parts of the outer drum together
- Two parts of drum together & ready for fixing
- Note the numbers on the drum front, these indicate screw numbers
- Using the T30 torx tighten screws in opposite sequence 1-10-6-14 etc
- Replace the drum pulley onto the spindle
- Replace the drum pulley retaining bolt
- Using a 13mm socket tighten the drum pulley retaining bolt fully
- Make sure this is fully tightened to draw the spindle into the bearings
- Drum pulley in place
- Drum assembly back together & ready to be fitted to the machine
