How to change the motor on a tumble dryer

  2. Safety first remove the plug from the mains socket.

  3. Tools: Phillips & flat screwdriver an 8mm socket & spanner and a pair of pliers

  5. Using the phillips screwdriver remove the 2 retaining screws to the top lid.

  6. From the front give the top lid a good push.

  7. Now remove the lid.

  8. Using the phillips screwdriver remove the retaining screws to the side panel.

  9. Remove the top screw to the side panel.

  10. Now remove the side panel.

  11. Make a note of the wires (A photograph is useful)

  12. Remove or cut the cable tie holding the wires

  15. Using the pliers release the cable clip attached to the heater casing

  16. Using the phillips screwdriver remove 2 screws and  the small bearing casing

  17. Using the phillips screwdriver remove the screws and remove the heater casing.

  18. Remove the heater casing with heater attached and pull wires through machine.

  19. Using a flat headed screwdriver remove the jubilee clamp retaining the recirculation fan

  20. Remove the recirculation fan

  21. Remove the wires from the cooling fan housing

  23. Un clip and remove the cooling fan housing

  24. Remove inlet ring

  25. Using a pair of pliers remove the corbin clip retaining the cooling fan

  27. Using an 8mm spanner remove 1 bolt and release the other to the belt tensioner

  28. Un clip the belt tensioner from the motor

  29. Remove the belt from the belt tensioner

  30. Make a note of the wires (a photograph is useful) and remove them

  33. Using an 8mm socket remove 4 bolts retaining the motor

  36. Take the new motor from its package ensuring its correct for the appliance

  38. Using an 8mm socket replace 4 bolts retaining the motor and tighten them

  39. Now you can replace the wires

  40. Replace the wires to the capacitor

  41. Reconnect the wires

  42. Replace the belt to the belt tensioner

  43. Relocate the belt tensioner to the motor

  44. Using an 8mm spanner replace 1 bolt and tighten both bolts to the belt tensioner

  45. Replace the cooling fan

  46. Using a pair of pliers replace the corbin clip retaining the cooling fan

  47. Replace inlet ring

  48.  Replace the cooling fan housing

  50. Relocate the wires into the recess on the cooling fan housing

  51. Replace the recirculation fan

  52. Using a flat headed screwdriver replace the jubilee clamp retaining the fan

  53. Push the wires through the hole and refit the heater casing to the appliance.

  54. Using the phillips screwdriver replace the retaining screws to the heater casing

  55. Using the phillips screwdriver replace the small casing securing with 2 screws.

  56. Now replace the heater wires

  57. Wires replaced
    Hotpoint CTD00 heater wires cable tie removed
  58. Now refit or renew the cable tie.

  59. Cable tie in place

  60. Locate the side panel into place.

  61. Using the phillips screwdriver replace the top screw to the side panel.

  62. Using the phillips screwdriver replace the rear screws to the side panel.

  63. Replace the lid.

  64. From the rear push the lid forward into place and secure with 2 retaining screws

  65. The appliance is now ready for use.
